GELIBOLU SHIPYARD PARTICIPATES IN THE BUILDING OF THE 1915 ÇANAKKALE BRIDGE
Gelibolu Shipyard has proudly taken part in the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge Project, which on competition
shall be the suspension bridge with the longest central span in the world; with a distance of 2023
metres between its two towers. The shipyard supplied both vessel repair and modification services,
and steelworks in the following areas:
- Repair-maintenance-refurbishment services for the barges, ships and marine vessels operating in
the field and the construction site;
- Manufacture and installation of barge reinforcements for loading and carrying the caisson piles
when the bridge foundation was being laid;
- Production of "Mega Support" and "SPMT Support" steel construction which enables stacking the
bridge deck slabs ashore and carrying them to the stock area;
- Production of the steel lifting gantry supports and the lifting frames with a carriage capacity of 500-
520 tons for the overhead assembly and disassembly of the cranes used for lifting the bridge deck
slabs;
- Production of "De-tensioning" and "Temporary Hanger System" structures that fix and suspend the
bridge blocks weighing between 400 – 800 tons, and production of “Overpass Platforms” that enable
passage between blocks;
- Production of a variety of steel structures amounting to over 3000 tons total, including 4 steel
towers with 45 m height for the reinforcement of catwalks.
